LIFE ON MARS?!

May 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander has successfully landed on Mar’s! On my birthday to be exact. The new spacecraft is called the Phoenix Mars Lander. The mission is basically to research if water exists on Mars. Where there is water there is life. You can get daily reports and photos on-line over the 3 month long mission on the Red Planet. NASA has a really great site where you can keep up to date on the tests. I downloaded the screen saver. I find Science fascinating and will be checking in daily. Here is the official report from Nasa…

NASA’s Phoenix spacecraft landed in the northern polar region of Mars Sunday, May 25, 2008, to begin three months of examining a site chosen for its likelihood of having frozen water within reach of the lander’s robotic arm. This black-and-white self-portrait shows Phoenix’s leg nestled in the Martian soil.

Radio signals received at 7:53 p.m. EDT confirmed the Phoenix Mars Lander had survived its difficult final descent and touchdown 15 minutes earlier. The signals took that long to travel from Mars to Earth at the speed of light.

This is the first image of the Red Planet image taken by the spacecraft just moments after landing…

This video makes me really excited…

WHAT THE WORLD IS SAYING ABOUT MELNCOLY

May 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

” Melyssa, I love the work! Your stuff is great and I hope it blows~up globally. All the best to you and I hope to meet you in person one day soon. ” – Jonathan Jaskson {WSDIA NYC}

” Your work makes me think of an opium den in the 1920’s: thick velvet curtains, trails of smoke, and lots of languid limbs (what struck me is how inspired you are, inspired by people, inspired by nature, inspired by history, inspired by travel, inspired by music, inspired by architecture, inspired by … And what I mean to say is I really feel it when I look at your work, I feel all the inspiration that went into it, and because of that, there is this well of inspiration that comes out of it) “ - Andrea D. {writer for the upcoming Parlour magazine feature on melncoly}

” Jewellery designer Melyssa N. is a mistress of accentuating our sexy curves with her line Melncoly. Her latest collection called “The Muse” is dark seduction on a silver chain. ” – Flare magazine

” Nielsen booked a flight to Paris and stayed there for the next year. “It was the best thing I have ever done for myself,” she muses, while sipping a cappuccino at a downtown cafe in Calgary. While living in the City of Light, the urge to create took root. “I observed everything from street styles to classic paintings in the museums, which I started to develop design references and inspiration for my creations,” she says. When she moved back to Calgary, she opened her studio and got to work designing beautiful things. “- Lincoln Phillip For The Calgary Herald

” Her more sophisticated designs certainly command attention on the sexiest parts of a woman’s body, which for Nielsen is the neck, the collarbone and the back. Her signature piece is a single teardrop pearl earring, which dangles from a fine chain. This piece is worn long to trail down the neck and slightly graze the collarbone. “It is like a necklace and an earring in one,” she says. Her newest piece, an art deco-inspired necklace, is made from four linked chains and adorns not only the front of the body, but also the back. (If you are still on the hunt for something for the man in your life, Melncoly also recreates the neck tie out of a single strand of fine chain that simply loops through a circle. This piece falls between the chest, Nielsen’s favourite part on a man. ” – Lincoln Phillip For The Calgary Herald

EXCLUSIVE BRIDAL COLLECTION

May 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My best friend Jenny has asked me to design the jewelry for her wedding. She just returned to Canada after living in Australia with her new husband, Dave. They met about a year while Jenny and I were on a road trip to Vancouver. Dave, a handsome young Aussie that was traveling the world by himself.  We met him at the Virgin Music Festival and they couldn’t stop talking and laughing from the moment they first locked eyes. We then saw him at the Bjork concert a few days later. They ended up x changing information. Continuing on his travels he decided to come out to Calgary. He ended up staying for three weeks and said to Jenny that he wasn’t going to leave until she came with him on the rest of his travels. She said YES! He ended up proposing to her while they were on their tallest mountain peak in Nepal. I haven’t seen her since she came to visit me in New York. It is so wonderful to be with her again and to see how happy she is! I am so excited and feel so honored to work on the Jewelry for her and Dave’s wedding. She gave me 5 pearls she found on her travels at a market in Indonesia. I will be basing the collection on these 5 pearls. Jenny has asked me if I could create the collection while she is visiting because she wants to do a photo shoot of the pieces while she is here. I said “oui” I can already see the lines. Congratulations Jenny and Dave. I love you both very much. You guys are the definition of true love and I am so happy the two of you have found your matching puzzle pieces! *
