DEATH BY BASEL
November 28, 2008 · 1 Comment
My friend Antonin, also known as Digiki is curating a show for Miami Art Basel entitled “Death by Basel”.
The show runs from December 2-7 at the Fredric Snitzer Gallery. The opening is on Friday December 6th from 7-9 PM.
For more information check out www.deathbybasel.com.
Antonin spoke about the show briefly on his blog saying, “Death by Basel is a reaction to the overwhelming commercialization of the art space, and we have invited some of our favorite artists to work around this theme. The works include video, sculpture and performances throughout the week of the exhibition with several artists exhibiting in the US for the first time.”
There will also be a publication made for this exhibition featuring a collaboration with Japanese magazine OK FRED.
If you are in Miami I wouldn’t miss this show!!!

BEAUTIFUL LOSERS
November 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit of the DIY art movement in the early 90’s. One of the artists featured in the documentary is ex-Calgarian Geoff Mcfetridge. He was recently interviewed by Swerve magazine where he said, “what’s interesting about Calgary and what I liked about growing up in Calgary is that it is kind of a struggle. You have to make everything from scratch. It taught me to be self sufficient.”
All of the artists were in a group show entitled “The Independents” at the Alleged Gallery on Ludlow Street in the Lower East Side. Which happens to be the street I spend a lot of time chillin with friends when I go to visit. Last month I swear you could have caught me at Max Fish every night (smile face). Back when I was living in New York we practically lived on Ludlow frequenting my favorite bar Cake Shop. This movie captures the positive vibe of the lower east side art scene that still exists today.
The film starts at 7 PM on Thursday November 27th at The Plaza Theater in Kensington. It is presented by our friends at the Calgary Underground Film Festival.
this clip shows you scenes from the lower east side vibe…

METEOR LIGHTS UP ALBERTAN SKIES!
November 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment
On Thursday, November 20th at approximately 5.30 p.m. a huge meteor entered our planets atmosphere over Alberta Canada. It happened about three hours away (driving time) from where I currently reside. This footage is amazing. It turned the evening sky into daylight! Scientists from all over the world are intrigued by the size of the meteor. In the footage you can see that it comes from so far away! And is large! The Scientists feel it is very likely there are large meteorites scattered through the Prairies. So next time you see a pretty rock. Don’t hesitate to pick it up.
