“Pulling influence from the glamour of the 1920’s, the flirtiness of the 1960’s and the punk movement in the late 1970’s, jewellery designer, writer, photographer and all-around creative force Melyssa Nielsen has developed a style all her own by following her own advice: “Be yourself and you’ll always be in fashion.” The Alberta College of Art grad lived in London, Paris and apprenticed in New York before returning to Calgary to open her own design studio, Melncoly, because she didn’t think the other jewellery out there was for her.”

I went for a memorable walk through central park with my genius photographer friend Daniel Peterson. To view the other pictures please click here.
I was sitting in cake shop eating a vegan cupcake on my last day visiting new york back in October. Daniel texted me and asked if I wanted to meet in the park and take photos. I took the F train over to 57th from Delancey. I met them at the main entrance to the park. Daniel had a friend with him that was visiting from Portland, which is where daniel is originally from. We walked through the park for about half an hour. It was such a sweet early evening, the sun was magical. After the shoot I had to pick up my roll of super 8 film I dropped off the day before in the East Village. So the boys and I hopped in a cab. Heading downtown, the cab driver drove us right through Times Square in rush hour. Past the Empire State building dropping us off right outside of PACLAB. We then ended up doing some vinatge shopping and then went for dinner somewhere in Soho. After we had a few drinks in us we spontaneously decided to catch the Stanton Island ferry over by Wall Street. What a trip! It was a full moon and the best part was, it was free. Nothing in new york is free. We arrived in Stanton Island. We ended up taking our sweet time and missed the next ferry. So we went for a walk outside the terminal. We stumbled upon the local pub. I had a pint and a half of Blue Moon beer and chatted with the locals at the bar. We then caught the next ferry back to Manhattan and I grabbed a cab back to Brooklyn. I love New York. My flight home was at 7am at JFK. My cab was scheduled to pick me up at 4.30am.
Check out Daniel’s work and hire this kid! He resides somewhere in New York. Last I heard he was working at The Knitting Factory.
I hope you are doing well my friend. You deserve the stars.

In TOKYO!, three visionary directors (Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho) come together for an omnibus triptych examining the nature of one unforgettable city as its shaped by the disparate people who live, work (and run amok) inside an enormous, constantly evolving, densely populated Japanese megalopolis — the enchanting and inimitable Tokyo.
TOKYO! will be shown in Calgary on Saturday, April 18 (7PM) at the Plaza Theater in Kensington. It is brought to you by the Calgary Underground Film Festival!

I have long had a love affair with Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. The first time I went was on a hot sweaty summer’s day in the middle of July in 2007. Rob and I walked through the park starting from our neighborhood of Park Slope. We didn’t have to walk far but The Tennis House found us. It was such a romantic afternoon. I always visit this spot every time I travel to New York.
The park is my main muse in the film I recorded back in October called NYC ON 8MM. If you are ever in New York I recommend making Prospect Park a place you go to catch fireflies. I’ll see you under the willow tree.

Evident Utensil is the first music video ever shot for datamosh compression.
“Datamoshing” occurs when the set of compression instructions for moving pixels around a set of frames gets applied to another set of frames. In more technical terms, when the Key Frames (described frames) are removed and the Delta Frames (modifications) persist, leading to smooth transitions between clips instead of a cut.
The term “datamosh” was coined by the art collective Paperrad, but the technique had been previously used by video artists Takeshi Murata and aPpRoPiRaTe .
